A beautiful beachy area along the southern coastline of Sri Lanka, Tangalle is a tranquil place, full of the sea breeze, and salty scents of the ocean border. Although exceedingly beautiful even amongst the beaches of the country, it’s relatively less crowded than its counterparts, although this is slowly changing due to the development of the town. Still, it provides for an excellent beach vacation with a getaway from the worries of city life.
Tangalle Beach
The obvious choice, we get this entry out of the way first as it is the most popular – the main section of the west end of the bay. Here, you’ll have as much space as you need, as the beach is the largest around, and plenty of amenities such as a dainty beachside cafe for some drinks and munchies. It’s a short distance from most Tangalle hotels as well, so it’s an easy but wise choice for the newbies.
Silent Beach
If you’re looking for a more secluded kind of spot, you can always swing by Silent Beach – true to its name, it’s far less crowded and sees much less thoroughfare than the main Tangalle beach, but the tradeoff is totally worth it. Albeit smaller, the beach is still within a reasonable distance from popular resorts like the Anantara Peace Haven Tangalle Resort, so go ahead and seek all the seclusion you like.
Tangalle Lagoon
More of an extra adventure, the lagoon is a highly-rated scuba spot, with tons of marine life to discover. If you’re lucky, you’ll also see some bird species flitting about here and there, so keep a weather eye out! Here, you can explore the lagoon at your leisure with a kayak, or get up close and personal with a dive, so make your choice – just know that they’ll be equally memorable.
Hummanaya Blowhole
A unique choice to put in your itinerary. As simple as the naming convention suggests, the blowhole is a rock that shoots out water in an 80-foot high arc, and is a smaller attraction in comparison to some of the other choices in this, but no less interesting. After all, it is a natural wonder, and there aren’t too many of these in the world!
