Best Times to Visit

Generally, the best period to visit Chiang Rai would be from November to February which is ideal since this is the time most plan their winter holidays. During these months, one can expect relatively cooler temperatures of around 25°C with less rain; since this is the peak season for tourism, make your booking in advance.

The heat and humidity begin to rise from March to May which is the hot season where temperatures can reach 40°C; that said, you can still plan a trip during this time with early morning or late afternoon activities and enjoy festivals like Songkran, the traditional Thai New Year. The monsoon season is between June and October and while it brings with it more rain, you will still find periods of sunshine for exploring; what’s more, rates and tourists will be less as well.
